Cancer Optimal Care Pathway

Every person deserves to have access to the best breast cancer care. Cancer Australia and the Cancer Council have developed the Optimal Care Pathway which is a framework for the delivery of consistent, safe, high-quality, and evidence-based care for people with cancer. Covering every step from prevention and early detection through to recovery, living with a chronic disease, or end-of-life-care, they aim to improve patient outcomes through promoting quality cancer care and ensuring that all people diagnosed with cancer receive the best care, irrespective of where they live or receive cancer treatment.

The five key areas of the Optimal Care Pathway for people with breast cancer are:

  • multidisciplinary care
  • informed financial consent
  • supportive care
  • access to clinical trials
  • optimal timeframes for delivering evidence-based care.

As lymphoedema practitioners its essential that we keep up to date with what is the current optimal care pathway as well as make sure that we utilise reputable resources.
