LIMPRINT – Special Edition Part 2

International Lymphoedema Framework

Part 2 of LIMPRINT Special edition published by Lymphatic Research and Biology

In nine open access articles readers are provided with more insight on ILF’s international study on chronic oedema.

Editor-in-Chief, Dr Stanley Rockson, writes in his editorial:

“This is indeed an ambitious project with an extraordinary impact upon an often neglected field of clinical practice. It is with great pride that we are able to provide the fruits of these labors to the readership of Lymphatic Research and Biology.”

Quality of Life and Costs Within Decongestive Lymphatic Therapy in Patients with Leg Lymphedema: A Multicountry, Open-Label, Prospective Study

Peter J. Franks, Isabelle Quéré, Vaughan Keeley, Andrea Tilley, Max Liebl, Susie Murray, et al. Lymphatic Research And Biology Volume 19, Number 5, 2021

Background: Little is known of the impact in terms of health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and cost-effectiveness with decongestive therapy.

Objectives: To examine changes in limb volume, quality of life (QoL), and treatment cost of methods of decongestive lymphatic therapy (DLT).

Prevalence and Impact of Chronic Edema in Bariatric Patients: A LIMPRINT Study

Amy Newman, Vaughan Keeley, Lorraine Pinnington, Carol Green, Katie Riches, Peter J. Franks, Iskandar Idris, and Christine J. Moffatt. Lymphatic Research And Biology Volume 19, Number 5, 2021

Background: Chronic edema (CO) is a complex condition, arising from different factors, including immobility and obesity. Edema and obesity can have a significant impact on quality of life of patients and their families. Understanding how to manage edema in obese patients is an increasing challenge for both patients and clinicians. As effective treatment options are limited for this population, it is more cost-effective for patients to lose weight before starting treatment. When patients cannot maintain weight loss, one option is to have bariatric surgery.

Association Between Access to Specialists and History of Cellulitis Among Patients with Lymphedema: Secondary Analysis Using the National LIMPRINT Database

Misako Dai, Gojiro Nakagami, Aya Sato, Hiroe Koyanagi, Masushi Kohta, Christine J. Moffatt, Susie Murray, Peter J. Franks, Hiromi Sanada, and Junko Sugama. Lymphatic Research And Biology Volume 19, Number 5, 2021

Background: Cellulitis is frequently encountered in patients with lymphedema despite existing prevention protocols. To resolve this issue, social aspects surrounding patients, such as communication with patients and professionals, are necessary to consider new approaches. This study aimed to clarify the association between the history of cellulitis in patients with lymphedema and access to specialists after adjustment for relevant confounding factors.

Global Knowledge Gaps in Equitable Delivery of Chronic Edema Care: A Political Economy Case Study Analysis

Background: Self-management is a key aspect of lymphedema treatment and self-efficacy is a key factor linked to long-term adherence to treatment. The study aimed to generate self-efficacy scales to support the care of children and adolescents with lymphedema to support self-management.
